PHOTO ART DIRECTION

Identity Systems

Beauty + Fragrance

Project Overview

This project focused on developing visual direction for beauty and fragrance across promotional, editorial, and retail driven materials. The work included product storytelling, seasonal fragrance features, and beauty focused layouts designed to support print, and in store. As art director, I developed the concepts and directed the overall visual approach, shaping how the imagery should feel through lighting, tone, composition, and styling. Working with photographers, stylists, designers, and retouchers, I helped create imagery that elevated the products while keeping them commercially effective.

The Challenge

The challenge was to create a consistent visual language across skincare, cosmetics, and fragrance while balancing editorial aspiration with clear retail communication.

The Idea

The visual direction centered on presenting beauty and fragrance through luminous, modern imagery that elevated the sensory and emotional appeal of the products while maintaining clarity and product focus.

The Structure

A scalable framework was created to support:

  • Product storytelling

  • Promotional print materials

  • Fragrance features

  • Beauty editorial layouts

  • Supporting retail and sales materials

  • Ecommerce

The Execution

The visual direction emphasized polished light, refined composition, thoughtful product placement, and a balance of softness and clarity. Different beauty categories were approached with their own nuance while remaining tied to a cohesive visual standard:

  • Skincare imagery focused on freshness, ingredients, and a clean modern sensibility

  • Cosmetics used texture, color, and product detail to create a more hands on, editorial feel

  • Fragrance leaned into light, atmosphere, and elegance to highlight the emotional and aspirational side of the product

  • Promotional beauty layouts combined product storytelling, typography, and visual hierarchy to create pieces that felt both engaging and retail ready

Execution included:

  • Concept development and visual direction

  • Art direction for beauty and fragrance photography

  • Direction of lighting, tone, mood, and composition

  • Collaboration with photographers, stylists, designers, and retouchers

  • Product storytelling for skincare, cosmetics, and fragrance

  • Retail and promotional layout direction

  • A cohesive image system that balanced editorial beauty with commercial clarity

The Outcome

The result was a photography library that gave the brand a more unified and versatile visual foundation across channels. The imagery created stronger continuity between e commerce, print, and point of sale while elevating the presentation of everyday home products through a more thoughtful lifestyle lens. By developing the concepts and directing the visual tone across the shoot process, I helped create an image system that felt consistent, scalable, and emotionally resonant, giving the brand a stronger visual language for seasonal storytelling.
